At NY Hand Associates, we are committed to providing comprehensive and minimally invasive services to treat conditions of the hand, wrist and peripheral nerve affecting the upper extremity (arm, elbow and shoulder). Utilizing the latest advances in technique and technology is part of our continuum of care that we provide to all of our patients.

Treatments We Offer

Splinting, Casting or Bracing

Though these may seem like the same thing, the reality is that they’re varying degrees of the same concept: keeping the injured area stable and immobile.

  • Splints—also known as half-casts—are easier to adjust for swelling than casts because of the adhesive straps, but are less supportive. They are typically put on first to avoid compartment syndrome (pressure on the muscles in the cast builds to a dangerous level) and permit the physician to re-evaluate the injury easily.
  • Braces offer roughly the same protection and stability as splints but allow for a better range of motion to avoid further injury.
  • Casts offer better protection, better support and a more customized fit for the injured limb than a brace or splint.

Enzymatic Treatments

Enzymatic treatments are injections of special enzymes into an affected area to break up fibrous or tough tissue, such as with Dupuytren’s contracture.

Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that helps diagnose and treat a joint, such as an injured wrist.  An endoscope—a small, thin camera—is attached to a tube that small tools can be threaded through to perform the procedure within the joint.

Microsurgery

Microsurgery involves techniques for repairing structures (e.g., nerves and blood vessels) in the hand that require precision at a microscopic level. Microscopic-sized instruments and sutures are used to repair injuries under an operating microscope.

We also offer:

  • Arthritis treatments for the thumb and wrist
  • Cortisone injections
  • Electrodiagnostic testing
  • Endoscopic carpal tunnel release
  • Nerve entrapment of the elbow release
  • Pediatric hand care
  • Plastic surgery
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections
  • Replantations
  • Surgery to improve function in paralyzed upper limbs
  • Wide awake hand surgery (also known as WALANT)
